"People often ask me, how long have I been an artist? There is only one answer to that--All My Life."

Karla Beatty is a life-long writer and artist of many topics, styles, and mediums.

Thirty years in the publishing industry provided skills in fiction and non-fiction writing. She is fascinated by the interactions of people and nature. These topics take her down many roads of study and exploration. She contributes articles and illustrations to magazines, newspapers, books, and textbooks.

As a botanical illustrator, Karla has a background in both science and art. She teaches botanical illustration in watercolor and graphite pencil at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Karla studied painting in New York and Boston and practices landscape painting in oils and watercolors and travel sketching with pens, pencils, and watercolor.

Karla enjoys woodworking and wood sculpture. She once had a business making wooden musical instruments. She then developed a jewelry-making business in wire-wrapping silver and natural stones. Carving wood sculptures and Celtic lovespoons is still one of her pastimes. She also enjoys crochet, knitting, off-loom weaving, macrame and basketmaking. Hiking the Rocky Mountains, bicycling, tai-chi, and meditation round out her interests.
